Position Description: Vocera is seeking an experienced Engineering Technician to support our Device Engineering Team in the development of Vocera’s mobile wireless products. This position encompasses a broad range of technologies and is an excellent opportunity for someone who is motivated to expand their technical skill set. This person will also support the maintenance of Vocera hardware products and equipment. The position reports to the Manager of Firmware Engineering.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, repair and maintenance of Vocera’s communication device series
- Maintain Vocera hardware lab (electronics, Wi-Fi, audio labs), including stocking parts, lab organization, and ordering/maintenance of tools
- Periodic auditing and tracking the devices
- Frequent and close collaboration with the engineering team
- Calibrate, troubleshoot and repair to component a variety of digital and analog circuits
- Assist engineering team by bringing-up and troubleshooting development boards for RF, firmware, audio tools and products
- Assemble, debug, modify, and track mobile devices and development systems
- Troubleshoot and repair to component level a variety of digital and analog circuits
- Hand-build prototypes of various digital and analog circuits
- Provide rework, assembly and testing methods in support of our contract manufacturing partners
- Help IT to troubleshoot and resolve engineering problems
- Proven capabilities and techniques to remove/replace Surface-Mount Technology (SMT) passive components cleanly, without any damage to the board
- Excellent soldering skills. Ability to solder and rework components down to 0201’s under a microscope and use standard machine shop tools
- Ability to understand hardware schematics/diagrams
- Showing interest in finding best approach for any given problem
- Ability to perform component level repair on computer based electronics devices.
- Good English speaking skills as the candidate will need to communicate effectively team members around the world
- An excellent team player with the ability to work across cross functional teams who are geographically dispersed
- Diploma/Bachelor’s Degree in Electronic Technology or equivalent
- 5+ years of industry experience with electrical troubleshooting or electrical assembly
- Industry experience in repairing and troubleshooting computer based circuit boards, especially on SMT technology
- Successful track record of ordering components and working with purchasing, outside vendors, manufacturing engineers, and contract manufacturers
- Proven ability to diagnose and repair analog and digital circuits
- High skill level utilizing small form factor board reworking techniques especially soldering SMT parts
- Excellent electrical assembly and debugging skills
